The Nigh of July…
Denial Ain’t The Charles!

I am not in Denial. I was talking to Tim D. the other week and we exchanged our congrats over the Bruins but also a slight sense of “Still Waiting for It Sink In”.
I’m gonna milk this gag for all it’s worth.
But really…I’m Still a Little Shell-Shocked with Winner’s Remorse.
I have every reason to be relieved!!!
Maybe I’m Amazed…

Now I have to sync this song to my Ultimate Bruins 2010-’11 Montage.
Because Sports Montages are like The Best!!!
Well perhaps that’ll give some Closure to my Open Feelings. Wah!
It’s a whole 3 months until the PUCK drops on the Aught-Leven, Aught-Twelve season and now I get Bad Butterflies over Potential Media Scrutiny now containing phrases such as “Cup Defense”…argh.
Or Maybe I Should Start Reading the Boston Herald?

July is Ending Quickly. Check the Freshness stamp on your Carton of July tonight kids or tomorrow morning. July ending was always a little melancholy for me as a kid. It meant Summer was Already half over. School would be back soon. Maybe it was between the ages of 9-15, I went to sleepover summer camp and August meant Camp was Ending or I was already back in the Projects. Hey, the Bruins have Summer Camp too! Being a Hockey Player is a Year Long thing to these guys!
Before 9 or 10, for 2 or 3 years I went to Day Travel Camp at the Dorchester Neighborhood House (YMCA), up the street from my Auntie Jo-Jo’s apartment (where I saw those people get shot Freshman Year in High School) and the Creamery “bodega” Jimmy Marcus owned in Mystic River (where I bought my first funnybooks off the spindle; Star Wars, JLA, All-Star Squadron, Moon Knight, Daredevil, Spider-Man…but this is a PUCK and the Gnome’s said his peace).
When I was 16 I had to work at the Video Store and the Cycle of Summer Camp was over.
Mazel’Tov! You’re a Man!
Speaking of Semitic Religions, starting August 1st is also the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan, wherein Six Years Ago I gave up smoking cigarettes. Not a One, Not a Drag. I still got to get my right forearm done with my commemorative Inking.
An Arabic Phrase, “Harq al-Ada”, Breaking of the Habit as my firend Mo from Morocco translated (remarking “that is a strong phrase”, nodding his head) and Advanced Dune Reference but iDigress...

Have a great August and keep your iPad out of the Sun! So Sez the Red Sox Radio Crew! I trust them so should you…I’m enjoying my first complete Sox game today. On the radio and on the teevee in the living room when I walk out there. Sure the radio is 7 seconds ahead of the teevee but hey, I’m taking the day for a Baseball Game in what could be another Championship Season.
Today I’m taking the advice of Dave & Ray Davies, the Brothers Corps of the Rock Band "The Kinks".
And on this Sunny Afternoon, while the taxman’s taken all my dough.
Press Play, Crack a Brew and Go SOX Go!!!

See you in August!
Sippin on my Ice-Cold Beer…Blazin on this Sunny Afternoon.
See You, Space Cowboy.

POWERS Vol. 3, #9. Alleged Release Date Sept. 7, 2011
Promised Monthly!!! YEAH RIGHT BENDIS! ;P

The Best Things in Life are Worth Waiting For. Issue #8 comes out sometime very soon for the last released magazine of this title & volume was #7 back in March of Aught-'Leven.

I guarantee you: Meathead will be raving about POWERS next year.
Meathead loves FX Original Shows such as Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck and like (honestly I can't keep up with the FX Shows he loves! ^_~).
And POWERS is about to become a TeeVee Show.

For me & the Comics Gnome, an Autumn return to the FunnyBook Bodegas of Beantown Faire.
Although this Tilt at the Windmill of Serialized Fiction will have a lot less Capes & Cowls.
I vow to return to my previous FunnyBook stance of Aught-One:
One DC Title
One MARVEL Title

And the rest...the Gnome will Decide.
Dark Horse Comics Presents...Joss Whedon's own Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 and it's "Sister" spin-off FAITH & ______, the S9 companion. Guaranteed getting me into the FunnyBook Bodega Once-A-Month for my new episode.

IMAGE has a slew of new & interesting titles coming out this Fall 2011. As a magazine publisher, IMAGE seems to own sheer creativity in a multitude of original & interesting characters, new and older. I've yet to get into THE WALKING DEAD. I've scratched the surface in the first 50 issues. THE WALKING DEAD became a teevee show last year and got popular.

Also at IMAGE is CHEW which is still the Best Comic I'm Missing!

And again at IMAGE is the forthcoming six-issue...

Luther Strode is just your average nerd until he sends away for a bodybuilding course from an old comic book, one that works a whole lot better than he ever imagined. His newfound strength and strange talents make school a lot easier, but they’ve also caused some very, very bad people to take a very, very keen interest in him. Things will never be the same for Luther Strode…if he survives.

This has got the Gnome's Complete Attention. I am really keyed into this one.

Not just adherence to a Corporate Property Pseudo-Mythology, but sure...I got a few schekels to leave at Olympus' Feet with ACTION COMICS and some MARVEL Comic yet to be determined. I stopped my Roller Coaster ride on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN just in time for my latest bout of self-inflicted poverty. Nonetheless, Gawd Bless Our Crappy Jobs, but iDigress...

I Take Prescriptions.
Not Drugs... ::wink, wink::
So Do You. And this started when Doctor Hooey prescribed to myself a YouTube video over a GChat.

Earlier in the week, Posty sent us what I think is one of the Best YouTube Random Email I've Ever Recieved.

"The Wall" originally by Pink Floyd as performed by Mariachi Cabos at La Fogata in Chapin, SC.

As I think the Entirety of OCHO can Agree, that Stanley Kubrick's horror masterpiece The Shining ranks among one of the best movies of all time. Just a hunch, okeeday. If you feel different, I do not mean to be putting words in yer mouth but iDigress...

Almost as good as the movie itself is the Fly-On-The-Wall Documentary shot by Kubrick's then-17 year old daughter, which can be found in the Additional Features in the Film's DVD menu. Most copies have the documentary built-in, even cheap ones.
If that is one's cup o'tea, then allow Me to Prescribe to You the Amazing Fan Doc on YouTube dissecting Kubrick's set design.
and how it is meant to confuse you and disorient you at every turn & corner, literally in every hall or labyrinth maze.
Discovered while playing the Duke Nukem 3D Skin set in the Shining's Overlook Hotel...the realization that the inner confines of the Overlook Just Simpy Cannot Exist!

On my Doctor's Orders, I stuck around for the end in Part Two.
I Prescribe this to you as well. If you dare...MUHAHAHAHAHA!
Great Thoughts on Cinema.

How Will I Ever Be a Gawd Again…
aka: The Winnipeg Jets Fly Again!

Here We Go...Again!!
The Atlanta Thrashers Hockey Club is no more.
Bought out by Canadian Interests and Transplanted into the Hockey Hungry “Snow Belt” of the Great White North.
Bringing the Grand Total of Canadian Clubs in the 30-Team NHL up to…
Seven. Hey, that’s better than last year when it was Six! Even when the League was at its Nominal Size at 22 teams in the mid-80s, the birthplace of the great sport only supported 8 cities. Pre-1967, The Original Six was 4-2, USA v. Canada.
The Two Victims of Mid-90s Relocation & Expansion were Winnipeg, Manitoba and Quebec City, moving to Phoenix and Denver respectively.
I’m hoping the Miami team gets relocated to Quebec. I think the Panthers stink & I think Tampa Bay cornered the market in Good Floridian Hockey. NHL Hockey would be better suited with the soft blue & fleur de lis of Les Nordiques, a little French Flair from Provence Quebec, n'est pas?

The new Jets logos were inspired by the Royal Canadian Air Force and I can’t wait to see what the sweaters look like.
You Know I’m a Sucker for a Hockey Jersey.
This is the 2nd time Atlanta lost an NHL Expansion Team…previously in the late-70s the Atlanta Flames up and moved to Calgary, Alberta CANADA. What’s to Learn from this Enterprise? Peaches & Pucks Just Don’t Mix…

One thing that was obvious in the post-World Series Red Sox Nation was there was barely any room for the rabble. The people who support the team with their allegiance can barely afford to purchase tickets to Fenway. When the Sox were just perpetually-struggling, tickets were somewhat commonplace and easy to get even on Game Day at a reasonable price. There’s some nostalgia glammer in Fenway…it’s still the same place I grew up in. And it’s the best its ever looked but…
But Who Can Afford Fenway?
On that note, allow me to segue into the Gallery.
The Balcony of the Shawmut FleetCenter TD Banknorth Boston Gahhden.
I can’t seem to RTFM the single price of a Balcony Ticket for next season but an Ultimate Cheap seat in the Upper Balcony in the 10-Game Pack is $42 per game.
Our Old Seats, Matt & Meathead…are $105 per game in Section 303 in the 10-Game pack. I’d be interested in the Cheap Seats if anyone’s listening! But iDigress…
How Can I Be a Gallery Gawd Without The Golden Ticket??? Wah!!!

I’m off! Seize the Day. Dr. Strangelove at 11AM on the Big Screen at Davis Sq. Then Sunday Dinner! Pork Chops…no applesauce, just gravy. What I can afford these lean “daze” is delicious dinner & ‘nuff to share with a good friend. If I give my best, then I too am worthy of holding the Stanley Cup.
Just what I’ve been telling the Bruins since I figured it out myself.

98a. Guns!
Yes! Guns are for Pussies. Soldiers too...but for Gutless Turds as Well!
82 People Dead in Norway from One Mad Gunman! WTF! One Motivated Individual Did That!
I know that Gamesmen & Hunters really DO NOT OBJECT to magazine size or semi- to automatic firing. They know that one shot is all you need to fell your prey.
Why can't we go back to Swords & Bucklers? Or is that wishing for the Great Post-Apocalyptic Dream? Yikes! My context is that Guns Are Bad. Nonetheless, I still walk down the street with my fingers like Tommy Guns, saying "Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat!"*
Such Complex Beings Are We, eh?

99a. No Manned Space Program in the USA!
America's Space Shuttle Program Mothballed after 30 Years of Service.

There is the International Space Station in Earth orbit that will be supported now only by Russia's Space Agency, aka Roscosmos

Where the Hell have I seen this Logo before...hmmm...::scratches head::...

Please tell me Uncle Sam got a few Stealth Shuttles stashed away in his sockdrawer but iDigress...

Grok This me Hearties...this means the Hubble Space Telescope gets No More Tune Ups? Dig?
Not unless we shove Click & Clack into a Soyuz! Jeez!...

31. Any more "news" updates on Amy Winehouse. it is wickid sad to be culturally remembered at Tussaud's as a 25-year old wino. This chick is the Rock & Roll Love child of Janis Joplin & Mariah Carey but iDigress...unless her next album is better than the last two, that is.
From the Way-Back Machine of Channel OCHO...
Something to take off the list I suppose.
R.I.P. Amy Winehouse. Dead at 27....How Very Fucking Rock & Roll. As Doctor Hooey said, sure there will be a flurry of news in the next two weeks but after that...I think your wish came true.
No Fair...Amy never really had a "next album"//

*Worse than the Machine Gun sound I make...I still make the Lightsabre Sound a Lot More, with the whole pull-it-from-your-waist-&-ignite motion too. The Lightsabre Sound would make the 101 Things List although an iPhone App is popular...so it's not just me & I'm Not Crazy...To Boot, All My Friends Have This App. So..Nyah! ;P

10:00-11:00 From Buddha to Batman: Deepak Chopra and Grant Morrison Discuss The Seven Spiritual Laws of Superheroes (Room 6A)

God sure does have a great sense of humor, don't s/he?

art& cover PHIL NOTO

The Captain must avoid the siren song of a post-apocalyptic cult if he is to return safely to America.

Finally.*, my Bold above...For Emphasis. I've literally been waiting years for the next issue.
Like Penelope. There's an Irony here.
Back in 2008 I bought all three new issues off the shelf. Funnybooks are bagged & put into the bins after 4 months more or less, FYI.
I waited...
I look forward to this and how it ends. I can only wait for issue Number Six and how the bow is strung..
I said this about the INFINITE HORIZON when issue #3 came out in 2008.
Four Years Ago.

Issue #4 had Delays...
came out April 2009.
Three Years Ago...

I thought I never was going to see this.
#6 should come out in November.
What a Birthday present.
See How the Bow gets Strung...but iDigress...

The modernization of Homer's The Odyssey set in a believable early 21st Century War is as Spooky as Stephen King's The Stand.
And it's already got a great ending...I wanna see how The Captain knocks this arrow...

iRawk…Therefore iPod!
Clouds Power Windmills Edition!

The 5th Generation iPod nano, circa 2009-early ’10.
Nickname: Arios Gundam, named after my Favorite Anime Giant Robo.

Happy 1st Birthday!
Arios Gundam. My trusty little orange mecha is now One Year Old.
I was lucky to have got my iPod in July instead of September.
For September is when the new iPods are released by Apple.
The 5th Generation long-body Nano was replaced by the current smaller, touchscreen version.

And that might be here to stay. I’ve said it before. I’m a frakkin’ Luddite because I love the ClickWheel. But iDigress…
The Future is THATTAWAY!!! ::points to the sky::
In the Clouds. Or The iCloud.
I was with Matt on 4th of July…he was applauding his version of the Cloud via his DROID. Saying it was still in a early stage but man…it’s the way to go.

I’m barraged by other information such as the new Nano is keeping its diminutive body shape but adding a camera.

But the winds of change blow towards a more mobile all-media device that can stream your collection form the Cloud and play whatever you rented from Apple TV or NetFlix.

Is the iPod coming to its inevitable end?
Will there be a 10th Anniversary Classic for me to drool over with a Click Wheel.
...or am iTilting Windmills Powered by those Clouds Again?

I was honored though. I did get to play my 24 Hour Party Mix at Matt’s 4th of July BBQ.
I feel it’s at its peak as a playlist…glad to have shared that. With Kiwi there and families! What a great time!!

The Comics Gnome POOTS!...Come September, When Again I Will Once afford A $2.99 FunnyBook...
aka Lots of Bemaoning the DCnU (Again!)

I can't help but look.
It's the Nu Thing.
My favorite funnybook superheroes are all getting a make-over.
and I don't think I'm buying it.

From new FLASH #1 coming Sept 2011.

Thanks Shortpacked!
Need some Context? mentioned on OCHO here...witness the lines on the boots yourself. This is no joke...at all but iDigress...

PS...Posty & I got one episode of Season 10 SMALLVILLE remaining...then the 2-hour FINALE!!!
Good to know it's influence will be felt in the DCnU!

GREEN ARROW #1, Sept 2011
ripped off of television's own versions of the Emerald Archer and the Winged Warrior. These are straight out of Smallville if you ask me.
Ask Posty. Ask Kiwi next year when they air the Final Season.

George Perez' own

or even WONDER WOMAN #1. She's had more Number One's than a 5 year Old with too much Sodapop.
Why why why...I get it, the Future is THATTAWAY!!! ::pointing skyward::
New designs on clothes won't fix storytelling. Action Figures figure into this Action, methinks.
Or am I being an Old Fart? I should embrace the Nu Style.

also the WildStorm Properties are being folded into this NEW EARTH place, not centered on its EARTH-50 analogue.

VOODOO #1 (it's nice she can get her own magazine....)

the DCnU WILDCATS are only around the corner.
Heck they got the Martian Manunter over at STORMWATCH now making sure they don't abuse their "Authority".

And it's true. Peter Parker is Dead. He took a bullet for Captain America I think. Then saved Aunt May.
The Ultimate version of Spider-Man is now ComicBook Dead.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN was perhaps one of my favorite go-to comics over the past decade.
I am Sad.

By the end of this July we'll have a new Legacy Character for the Ultimate Universe.
ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #1. A new Spider-Man for a Newer World.

Sigh. Big Frakkin' From-The-Bottom-of-My-Broken-Heart-&-Lungs SIGH!

I swear the only new comic I'm getting in September is Buffy Season 9 #1.

2011 Stanley Cup Champions BOSTON BRUINS!!!
Welcome to the Channel OCHO Blog!

The Smoking PUCK!
July 9, 2011

Hello, Goodbye…
aka: Eat Your Words!

How I’d love to make them Eat Their Words.
Feature This: My Imagination…
How to Bake a Cake. Make a nice simple chocolate sheet cake, big & rectangular.
Use a delicious white buttercream frosting.
Next with black icing in newspaper font replicate all the seriously Bad Press the Boston Globe gave to the Bruins all season long.
And give it to the Hockey beat Writers.
Every Negative Phrase, Every Put Down. I’d like to make them eat their words after a Stanley Cup season. Doom & Gloom and Mudraking. What better way…and fun too.
Too bad they’d just probably throw it out but it’s a fun thought anyway.
No Ex-Lax or anything nasty, no not at all. I intend a delicious chocolate cake, adorned with their very own words…
The 2010-2011 will go down for this Blogger as the “halcyon daze” of my Bruins Hockey, the Post-Sinden Years of GM Peter Chiarelli, of VP Cam Neely, of Coach Claude Julien and of Captain Zdeno Chara. In 2007, the culture of this Boston Team changed. And because of the expectations of the City & the Fans with the other Big 3 being recent champs…it made for an interesting ride.
The Globe though…sheeeesh. I still read it daily but I chuckle in hindsight now reminiscing on the past few years of Boston Globe Hockey beat writing.
Sure the 2009-2010 Playoffs were perhaps The Cause Celebre and lightning rod for their Negative Ire & Pedantic Lens.
You gotta give them ”Too Many Men, Pt. 2’. That’s just the fabric of our Bear Skin Rug, right?
But iDigress…

Hello, Goodbye…
Two of the reasons I wanted to bake that cake…
Michael Ryder, big free agent signing for the Bruins a few years back and according to the Globe never lived up to his expectations….he signed with the Dallas Stars.
Tomas Kaberle, big deal trade this past season and panned in the Globe after he immediately didn’t $#!t Black & Gold Bricks…signed with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Both these players were integral to the Season, Playoff and Stanley Cup Success. The Bruins are nowhere near dismantling the Team (such as was done in Philadelphia!). Nonetheless, being in a different city away from the Boston journalistic expectations & their negative copy most definitely part of a decision for these two.

and Say Hello!…to new Bruins
Joe Corvo. Veteran defenseman from Carolina almost in exchange for the Kablere Signing. He’ll do. Big defenseman. Losing Kaberle means a job’s open for an interested candidate.
And also Dougie Hamilton, the 9th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 Draft. 18 years old and 6’-4”. Let’s see what this kid’s got to bring to the table. This is the pick the Bruins got from the Phil Kessel trade a few years back. Toronto finished pretty badly this season and got the 9th pick in the Bingo-style lottery that established the choosing order.

So I’m totally ripping off the Globe right now after bashing them…
I’m a Grown Man. I’m allowed to feel more than One Way about One Thing. ;P

So this is the dilly.
After the “the Long Offseason”, the Salary Cap was introduced and the result was an equalization of talent spread pretty much evenly over the league.
Since it’s introduction in 05-06, set at $39 Million and has been set for the ’11-’12 Season at $64.3 Million. The maximum a player could make in ’10-’11 was $11.88 Million. More on the Current NHL Salary Cap and the increase in revenue meaning an increase in player pay.

Happy Birthday, America!

A Weekend to bust out my Cap'n America tee-shirt and Star & Stripes bandana!
This little ditty still brings a tear to my eye.

If I could make a Middle Road Political party...a real 3rd Party in American Politics the first thing I'd do is make term limits for Senators & Congresspersons.
Why? No More Kings....that's why. Service to The Public then Return to Private Life. You need to give up the power to keep it.
God Bless America.

Kriya Shakti,

have a great holiday weekend!

I love the Stars & Stripes, the Nation's Cool-@$$ Flag. .
Therefore I love this album cover. Artwork by one of the bandmates. When it was a Trio & a Drum Machine produced by Steve Albini. If this makes no sense to you, just sit back and be put off by the album art.
