'Twas The Night Before X-Mas and All 'Cross the Ponds...
aka: Merry Christmas, Channel OCHO!

Ho ho ho!!!

Good things come to those who care. After slumming it in the Hearts of Boston Sports Fan, the Bruins currently own second place in their division. Is anyone paying attention and noticing...I think "maybe". Mike V. at the Bar has finally forgiven the Bruins and is going to two Original Six games this year. That in itself delights me. Like "I'm Doing My Job" kinda elated, huh? Ice Hockey...the Greatest Gift! Thanks God! I still say, "On the Eighth Day, God Was Bored...So God Created Canadians to Make Hockey".

Second Place in the Northeast Division. Fifth Place here in the N.E. would be Third in the Other Two Eastern Conference Divisions...as per usual, the Northeast Div is packed with talent. One day all 5 teams from the Northeast Division will appear in Playoffs. It is possible. It is this PUCK's Esteemed Opinion and Prediction this will occur but iDigress...

I personally have been a bad fan. Not a Game Yet this season. I have not ascended to the Thrones of the Gallery Gawds. I know that Mike V. at the Bar is taking me to one of his. That'll be nice. Mike hasn't gone to the Gahh-den in years...he doesn't necessarily like the idea of a Shootout. He's waiting for his classic, brand-new Cam Neely jersey to come in the mail. Mike's got an Adams Division mentality and I like it. I gotta take Meathead to a game soon. I miss going to games with Meathead...maybe I miss the Hooter's Wings and pitchers of Miller Lite.

And being a bad fan...I've been missing games on TV as well. Having this Night Before X-Mas all to myself I wish for a hockey game on the Tube most of all. More than a pizza or beer. Nonetheless, the NHL has the night off. The store is closed X-Mas as well. Boxing Day will be a big day for NHL sporting nine windmill tilts over all over North America. The Bruins take to the ice again on the 28th after clawing back into contention and being chewed up with injuries. Patrice Bergeron rode a stationary bike for 5 minutes without getting spells. That's great news. Glen Murray is out for a bit but Aaron Ward is out for a lot with a broken foot. Manny Fernandez is out for the year having to submit to season-ending knee surgery. Backing up 'Tween the Pipes is young Alex Auld, fresh from the Deserts of Arizona's Phoenix Coyotes, one of the X-Factors in the Bruins' recent successes. Another reason is rookie Milan Lucic who's on-ice presence is inspiring not to mention Chuck Kobasew's team leading 13 goals. 36 games played, Marc Savard leads the team with 31 assists and 39 points. Mouthbreahters, he averages over a point a game. Captain Zdeno Chara leads the teams in Penalty-In-Minutes with 69. Still...the Bruins are guilty of undershooting the puck averaging 26 Shots-On-Goal per game. They aren't the Celtics, they aren't the Red Sox and they aren't the Patriots either...and they ain't ever gonna be. It takes true personal resolve not to get angry at the J.A.F.O. who has no informed opinion.

I can't seem to catch a game on the TV anymore though...I miss watching my hockey. Bee-ohh-ohh-aich-ohh-ohh. Make the time or not. It is either/or. I'm watching "Invincible" with Marky-Mark Walhberg...I like the portrayal of these Philly Eagles fans. They remind me of us Boston Bruins fans. In the New Year, I'm looking forward to getting to the Gallery. So Merry Christmas from the Smoking PUCK and Channel OCHO. Maybe we were good this year so we'll all get a Playoff berth in our stockings this X-Mas! Let's hope.

Hey Sul... Nah still with the Windows version... no point is switching when I have a tonne of free programming and toys already on the PC. Plus it's all compatible with work as well, which is the main purpose for the new machine. Getting new programmes could get very costly otherwise and frankly I spent more on this thing than I was originally supposed to. It's got all I need though. Access to email, the net and iTunes. I'm good.

How you all doing??? House is looking good Matt! You've accomplished a LOT in the last few weeks! When's moving day?

Nice place for a vacation...
Mars is Cruisin' for a Bruisin'

It looks like there's a better of than 1 in 75 chance that an asteroid of significant mass is going to strike equatorial Martian soil on January 30th. The above article matter-of-factly describes the object as similar to the one that struck near the Podkamennaya Tunguska river in Siberia in 1908. I question that bit, as the "Tunguska blast" is noticably devoid of an impact crater, and because I rather like the far-fetched romantic notion that the flattening of some 60 million trees in a pattern radiating outward from the blast epicenter was in fact caused by N. Tesla's experiments in broadcast power, weather control, and "mad scientist" death rays, and not by an asteroid exploding just before it hit the ground.

That not withstanding, I'm going to be hoping for an impact on Mars, as it should be informative, super-cool, and because it ought to help to convince folks holding the purse strings that near earth orbit bodies are worth tracking and developing countermeasures for. We might need that in 2029 when Apophis comes to visit, or maybe in 2036 when we might get up close and personal with 2004VD17. http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/apophis/apophis_image3.html

Bwah! Matt...it was a simple matter of motivation. My roommate, Kevin got a new PC months ago and asked for my help getting his old songs on his iPod. I never did a data extraction from harddrive to harddrive before...I've seen it done, I know it can be done but I neither have the hardware (wires) nor the software to complete that. Plus, he only wanted to move his music so we plugged in his old harddrive (which was in the basement for months). It took a while for it to warm up and I burned an MP4 data disc of his iTunes Musics...about 110 in total. My USB Keychain is a runt at 256MB or I'da saved a CD and used the keychain to ferry. His DVD Drive was flaky too boot...thank goodness I use an external DVD USB Drive for my Mac. Also Thank Goodness he was running XP so we didn't require driver patches. Then came Napster. Kev had about 160+ more songs in his Napster folder. When it came time to burn them, it wouldn't allow me to burn them as MP3/4 format. It would only allow me to burn as music. So the Math for the Mouthbreathers averages this about 8-9 CDs wasted. There was a link on the Napster availing us to the possibility of saving a MP3...but Kevin's ethernet card was currently screwed into his new computer. So Kevin goes through the laborious process of moving his ethernet card. Once installed it took another "forever" to find the Bloody IntrePoop through Connection Wizards. Then he couldn't get into Napster since he forgot his log-in in order to use that MP3 conversion link. Now you know this is a task that should have taken minutes, not hours.
My caddy was getting impatient. I was in the middle of EA's TIGER WOODS 2008. Then it officially developed an S.E.P. Field.
So...the old computer is back in the basement. Kevin added 110 songs to his iPod and since I saw the contents of his Napster music, I can replace about 60% of 'em when he browses my collection.
A Matter of Motivation...sure. Thinking back I probably could have followed the directory location to the Napster music folder on the harddrive and seen what I could have done from there but we were more wrapped up in the moment...

Yeah, Kiwi!!! What kinda laptop you get??? Another Bloody Windows machine or did you get civilized and Go Mac? DETAILS!!!
Hello boys... how's tricks??? Boy it's been a while huh? I've just been catching up on my last 6 months of OCHO. As I am on a 4-6 week surgically enforced vacation (again) I have sat down with my new Xmas laptop (it came early) turned on the tube and am hopefully going to catch up on lots of biz'ness.
Right now though... onto my third season of Smallville. Catch you all soon!

I don't know what the heck the comic with the glowing bug eyes is all about, but I might be able to help with the Napster file resurrection. When you say, "you were unable", what does that mean?

You didn't know what to do? You got an error of some sort? Ben Grimm threatened to clobber you both with a Yancy Street signpost if you got anywhere near the keyboard? Ambiguity doesn't get the songs in the pod Sully.

Throw me a frikkin' bone here.

iRawk...therefore iPod

Impulse Buying Edition!

So...I was thinking.

About the IntrePoop and Music...again.

I helped my roommate revive his 30GB 5th Gen iPod...by Frankenstein-ing his old PC but iDigress...

We had to raid his ancient Napster account to retrieve musics for this new iTunes collection. And we were unable...well at the expense of effort I guess, no. Matt is chuckling as he reads...I dig.

But he asked me, "what IntrePoop service do I use to get music"?

And I hadda answer, "the iTunes Music Store".
No lie. I don't pirate music over the IntrePoop. The Digital Age has made a huge splash in the pond of popular music, nonetheless. I do share music I guess. White Lies? Hmmm...

I am not over the occasional impule purchase. Such as this: unheard, unlistened-to.

Black Star.

I can just here it now...

"you didn't know Black Star???"

The Count:
8,035 on iTunes
6,005 on the 30GB 5th Gen iPod
1 lost line of resolution on the video display
8 hour max of battery life
2 years of constant use
